Algeria’s Mining Sector : A Promising Future, Says Energy Secretary at Mining INDABA 2025

ALGIERS — The Algerian Secretary of State to the Minister of Energy, in charge of Mining, Karima Tafer, underscored on Tuesday in Cape Town, South Africa, Algeria’s efforts to develop the mining sector, stressing the sector’s abundant promising opportunities backed by an ambitious government program aimed at drawing investments and boosting the industry’s appeal, as stated in a release from the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Renewable Energy.
Tafer led an official delegation to the opening of “Mining INDABA” exhibition, which included ministry officials, SONAREM Group representatives and members of Algeria’s Geological Survey Agency (ASGA).
She outlined the key pillars of the national strategy in this field. She emphasized that “Algeria’s mining sector brims with promising opportunities, backed by an ambitious government program designed to draw investments and boost the sector’s appeal.”
She also expressed Algeria’s willingness to establish lasting partnerships with diverse stakeholders across the mining sector.
The Secretary of State also participated in the “Korea-Africa Critical Minerals Dialogue,” held on the sidelines of “Mining INDABA 2025,” which brought together government representatives and business leaders from South Korea and several African countries.
The Algerian delegation’s participation is part of strategic directives aimed at developing mining industries in Algeria and strengthening cooperation in strategic mineral exploitation with participating States, particularly in the context of rapid transformations in the global economy and growing demand for these resources, the ministry said.
Tafer held discussions with Ethiopian Minister of Mines, Habtamu Tegegn, regarding “ways to boost bilateral cooperation relations in the field of mineral research and exploration, as well as in expertise and experience exchange and training, in addition to human capital development.”
The Secretary of State also met with executives from international companies and corporations operating in the mining sector, particularly in the mineral resources manufacturing industry, the same source concluded.
