Algerian President Talks About Relations with European Countries and the United States

ALGIERS – During his regular media meeting broadcast on national television and radio channels on Saturday evening, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune touched on Algeria’s relations with various European countries and the United States.

Regarding Algerian-Italian relations, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune described them as “strong”, saying, “Algerians never forget those who do good to them, and this is what Italy provided during a difficult period in Algeria’s history.”

“Italian investments in Algeria are currently diverse, including the automotive industry and agriculture. We also aim to have the headquarters of the ‘Mattei Plan for Africa’ based in Algiers,” he added.

Regarding relations with Spain, the Algerian president confirmed that they are gradually returning to normal after a period of strain between the two countries, adding that a portion of the sacrificial animals for Eid will be imported from Spain.

Regarding relations with Germany, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune stated that “it is also distinguished, and the Germans have always been friends,” emphasizing that the same applies to Eastern European countries, and there are no issues with any European nation.

Regarding relations with France, which have experienced tension in recent months, the Algerian president revealed that he entrusted the Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, with resolving the contentious issues with France, stressing that he has placed his full trust in him to handle the relationship with France.

“In some of the contentious issues with France, there were things that were deliberately fabricated, and no one has the right to harm our expatriates abroad as long as they respect the laws,” he said.

As for relations with the United States, the Algerian president described them as “strong,” noting that the recent agreements signed between the two countries will not impact relations with Russia and China. He also underscored that Algeria “maintains a stance of non-alignment.”
