Algerian President Denounces Atrocities Against Palestinians as “Full-Fledged Genocide”

Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, recalled on Saturday the atrocities committed against the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, witnessed by the world over the past two consecutive years.

He regarded these acts as a “full-fledged, systematic genocide against the Palestinian people” in a speech delivered on his behalf by Prime Minister, Sifi Ghrieb, during the G20 Summit held in Johannesburg, under the theme “Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainable Development.”

In his address, the Algerian President noted that the atrocities endured by the Palestinian people have been witnessed by the world “for two consecutive years” and emphasized that they “can only be described as a full-fledged, systematic genocide against innocent civilians, before which humanity stood powerless.”

President Tebboune further stated that “neither the numerous UN Security Council meetings nor international condemnations have succeeded in halting this destruction and these horrific massacres despite two years of ongoing systematic starvation and killings.”

“Now, with a glimmer of hope for a better future for the Palestinian people, allow me to commend the crucial roles played by the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General and the peace-loving countries in halting the genocide in the Gaza Strip.”

He went on to specifically thank U.S. President Donald Trump, the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for “their unremitting efforts, which led to the cessation of this tragic genocide against the Palestinian people.”

The President emphasized that “the massive destruction in the Gaza Strip calls for the mobilization of resources at the international level to rebuild what the war has destroyed and to restore hope to the bereaved Palestinian people.”

In this regard, President Tebboune expressed his hope that “the G20 countries take the lead in launching a broad mobilization to build a better future for the Palestinian people,” underscoring that Algeria “is committed to participating in every initiative that the G20 may undertake in this regard.”
