Algerian Parliament Speaker Receives President of Colombian Chamber of Representatives

ALGIERS – The Algerian speaker of the People’s National Assembly (lower house of Parliament), Brahim Boughali, received Tuesday at the assembly’s headquarters in Algiers, the president of the Colombian Chamber of Representatives, the lower house of the Congress of Colombia, Jaime Raul Salamanca Torres, who is on a two-day visit to Algeria.

Salamanca Torres told reporters, at the end of the meeting, that the trip will be an opportunity to “exchange expertise in several areas, especially in parliamentary cooperation.”

It is also an occasion to “strengthen cooperation among American, African and Arab countries,” through “Colombia and Algeria, two pivotal countries for such cooperation and dialogue, to take advantage of their experiences, mainly in the building process.”

Colombia, he said, “is going through a crucial stage in terms of the building process, mainly in infrastructures,” hence the need to “have constant cooperation and communication between the two institutions.”

The Colombian official said his country will chair this year the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CLACS), an opportunity to stress the importance of “integrity between America, Africa and Arab countries.”
