
The Algerian Coast Guard successfully rescued a number of illegal migrants of various African nationalities, the Algerian Ministry of National Defense said in a statement.
The operation, part of the ongoing efforts by the Coast Guard to ensure safety at sea, was initiated after the National Center for Maritime Surveillance and Rescue, part of the Algerian Coast Guard, received information on Saturday at 07:28 AM, indicating that a boat carrying illegal migrants was drifting 2 nautical miles north of Douaouda, Tipaza, in the 1st Military Region, the statement said.
A rescue and evacuation operation was promptly launched by the Coast Guard units from Algiers and Cherchell, resulting in the rescue of 32 illegal migrants from different African countries. They were all transferred to Cherchell Port, where they received medical care from health services.
The Algerian Ministry of Defense emphasized that this operation reflects the Coast Guard’s continued commitment to addressing maritime risks and saving lives under all circumstances.
