Algerian-Chinese Business Forum on Investment Kicks Off in Algiers

ALGIERS – The Algerian-Chinese Business Forum on investment in Algeria kicked off on Tuesday, with the participation of a significant number of economic operators from both countries.
During the forum, organized by the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency under the high patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, agreements and memoranda of understanding will be signed between Algerian and Chinese business operators. The event will also highlight investment opportunities in Algeria and China’s foreign investment policy, alongside the organization of bilateral business meetings.
The Algerian-Chinese Business Forum on Investment in Algeria, held under the theme “Strong Partnership… Sustainable Economic Cooperation,” aims to enhance economic relations between the two countries by activating bilateral agreements, strengthening cooperation, and positioning Algeria as a promising investment hub in Africa and the Mediterranean region. The forum also seeks to highlight investment opportunities in priority strategic sectors, promote the creation of joint ventures between Algerian and Chinese companies, facilitate direct dialogue among economic players, support economic diversification and technology transfer, and establish a partnership based on sustainable and mutually beneficial economic cooperation.
The Algerian Investment Promotion Agency has registered 42 Chinese projects worth $4.5 billion, the majority of which are direct investments in the industrial sector, according to the agency’s Director General, Omar Rekkache.
During the forum’s opening, Omar Rekkach explained that these projects are divided into direct investments (22 projects) and joint ventures between Chinese companies and local operators (20 projects), with the majority focused on the industrial sector. This underscores the growing interest of Chinese investors in direct investment in Algeria. He also highlighted that several Chinese businesses have expressed a desire to launch investment projects across various sectors, which the agency is currently evaluating in coordination with the relevant ministries. According to him, this reflects a genuine desire to expand China’s presence in Algeria, shifting from participation in tenders, orders, and services to leveraging Algeria’s competitive advantages for productive investments.
