Hammer thrower Djaber Bar has clinched Algeria’s first gold medal at the 3rd edition of the African Combined Athletics Championships (U18/U20), currently being held from July 16 to 20 in Abeokuta, Nigeria.
Under the guidance of coach Sadek Dahmane, the young Algerian athlete excelled in the competition, achieving a remarkable throw of 67.03 meters, which also set a new national record in the discipline.
This achievement marks Bar’s fourth national record in just two months; he had previously established three records in a single day at the end of May during a national competition at SATO Stadium on July 5. After an initial throw of 64.32 meters, recognized as a new national benchmark, Bar followed with impressive throws of 65.39 meters and 66.43 meters on his second and third attempts, respectively.
Continuing his impressive performance, Bar shone once again in Nigeria by decisively winning the African championship title and breaking the national record with his throw of 67.03 meters.
Algeria is competing in these African Championships with approximately forty athletes (both boys and girls) participating across various running, jumping, and throwing events.
According to the organizers, the continental competition features a total of 500 athletes (male and female) from 43 countries, aiming to uncover new talents and prepare them for the upcoming Olympic Games and World Championships.
