Algerian National Assembly Condemns French Senate President’s Visit to Occupied W.S.

The Algerian National People’s Assembly (APN) has issued a strong condemnation of the French Senate president’s visit to the occupied territories of Western Sahara, characterizing it as a “serious drift of the extreme right” and a “flagrant violation of international law and United Nations resolutions.”

In a statement released on Wednesday, the APN asserted that this visit marks “a significant shift toward extreme right politics, which currently dominates the French political landscape, and constitutes a clear breach of applicable international laws and UN resolutions.”

The communiqué further emphasized that this visit occurs amid “evident attempts by outdated colonial ideologies,” which have infiltrated French institutions, seeking to provide “false legitimacy to Moroccan occupation.”

The APN highlighted that this visit contravenes international law and undermines the will of the Sahrawi people, who possess the right to self-determination in accordance with the resolutions of the UN Security Council and General Assembly.

Additionally, it pointed out that “this stance reflects the persistence of obsolete colonial policies that undermine the principles of international legality and the legal status of Western Sahara as a non-self-governing territory awaiting decolonization under the auspices of the United Nations.”
