Algeria, Sultanate Oman Share Firm Willingness to Further Bolster Multifaceted Cooperation

MUSCAT- A joint statement on President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s three-day state visit to the Sultanate of Oman, at the invitation of the Sultanate of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq, was issued on Wednesday, in which the two sides underlined their willingness to further foster multifaceted bilateral cooperation, in the service of both countries’ interests.

“As part of enhancing the strong bonds of fraternity between the Sultanate of Oman and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, and their enlightened leaders and the two brotherly peoples, and in response to the kind invitation His Majesty of the Sultanate of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq, His excellency the President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, accompanied by a high-level official delegation, made a three-day visit to the Sultanate of Oman, as from Monday, 24 Rabi Al Thani corresponding to 28 October 2024,” said the joint communiqué.

“The two leaders held talks in a spirit of fraternity and understanding and stressed their constant willingness to further boost multifaceted bilateral cooperation, in the service of both countries and peoples’ interests, and raise them to the level of the brotherly historical ties binding them. They commended the steps aimed at boosting bilateral relations and the results of the 8th Algeria-Oman Joint Commission held in Algiers in June 2024, and the outcomes of the businessmen forum on the great and promising trade and investment opportunities,” said the source.

The two leaders backed “these results by giving guidelines to all stakeholders and sectors to intensify contacts and exchange of visits under the follow-up and implementation of all joint initiatives and programs for the benefit of the two brotherly countries and peoples,” said the communiqué.

The two leaders “welcomed the initiative to set up a joint Oman-Algeria Investment Fund, which will enable the establishment of partnerships and joint projects in the fields of renewable energy, petrochemicals, desert farming, technology, tourism and other promising areas.”

“The two sides also stressed the importance of boosting communication and partnership opportunities in the private sector, fostering trade and industrial exchanges, and taking advantage of both countries’ markets and positions to promote national exports and their access to regional and global markets.”

“The two leaders also praised the signing of eight (8) memorandums of understanding covering various sectors, including investment promotion, the organization of fairs, events and conferences, education and teaching, higher education, environment and sustainable development, services, employment and training, and the information sector”.

“Concerning consultations, exchanges of views and coordination on current regional and international developments and issues, the two sides stressed the need to immediately halt Israeli aggression against the Palestinian territories, Lebanon, Syria and Iran, and insisted on the right of the Palestinian brothers to the establishment of an independent state with East al-Quds as its capital, based on the two-state solution, and its membership of the United Nations.”

In addition, the two sides underlined the importance of cooperation and coordination between their two countries in regional and international for their interests and the strengthening of joint Arab action and the foundations of security, peace and stability in the region and the world, as well as support for efforts to favor peaceful options and consolidate security and stability in the region and throughout the world, by enshrining the rules of international law, respect for international legality and the principles of justice and equity.

For its part, the Omani side expressed its appreciation for the efforts made by the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, as a member of the Security Council, in support of Arab and just causes and for its leading and constructive role in this area.

The Algerian side, for its part, hailed the pivotal role played by the Sultanate of Oman in peace initiatives aimed at resolving tensions and promoting understanding and positive cooperation between States in the region and worldwide.

The President Abdelmadjid Tebboune expressed “his consideration to his brother, His Majesty the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq, and the Government and dear people of the Sultanate of Oman, for their warm welcome and hospitality,” wishing the Sultanate of Oman “further progress and development under his enlightened leadership.”

He also invited the Sultan of Oman, to visit Algeria, “an invitation accepted by His Majesty,” according to the statement.
