Algeria Signs the United Nations Convention Against Cybercrime
The Secretary-General of the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lounes Magramane, signed on Saturday the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime on behalf of Algeria in Hanoi, Vietnam, as commissioned by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
This agreement is considered the first international instrument dedicated to combating cybercrime, with Algeria playing a pivotal role by chairing the specialized committee responsible for its drafting and leading the negotiation process since May 2021, culminating in its adoption at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in December 2024, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The ceremony saw 64 countries and a regional organization sign the agreement.
The event was inaugurated by the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Luong Cuong, in the presence of high-level delegations and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
