Algerian Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid, highlighted Wednesday, in Rome, Algeria’s vast agricultural potential, particularly in its southern regions, noting the country’s strategic vision and its openness to foreign investment in the agricultural sector, the ministry said in a statement.
In a speech delivered Wednesday in Rome, Italy, at the World Food Forum (WFF 2025) and the Ministerial Dialogue on South-South Cooperation and Triangular Cooperation, Oualid underscored Algeria’s openness to foreign investment through strategic megaprojects, such as the Baladna project and the Bonifiche Ferraresi Algeria (BF) project with the Italian partner.
He further said that “Algeria’s doors remain open to all investors who wish to tap into the enormous potential of the agricultural sector, especially in the country’s South.” Oualid reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to bolstering national food security by developing sustainable agricultural production, enhancing agricultural value chains and investing in Saharan agriculture.
The agricultural sector, he added, “is embracing technology now more than ever to boost productivity and optimize the use of natural resources, particularly water and energy, in line with the Government’s strategic orientations for rural development and promoting agricultural investment.”
