Algeria Launches ‘TaqatHy+’ Project in Collaboration with the European Union and Germany

ALGIERS – The Algerian Ministry of Energy and Mines announced on Monday the official launch of the funded phase of the “TaqatHy+” project, jointly supported by the European Union and Germany, aiming to accelerate the deployment of renewable energies, develop green hydrogen, and promote the integration of innovative solutions in the field of energy efficiency.
The project implementation contract has been signed, reflecting a renewed and strengthened commitment to supporting Algeria’s energy transition. This new phase is valued at €28 million, funded by the European Union since February 2025, with €13 million contributed by Germany.
Supervised by the Algerian Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies, and implemented by the German development agency GIZ Algeria, the “TaqatHy+” project aims to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy, advance green hydrogen development, and foster the integration of innovative energy efficiency solutions.
The TaqatHy+ project, running until 2029, contributes to creating local value and strengthening capacities through the development of renewable energy and green hydrogen as strategic drivers for a more sustainable energy mix and economic opportunities. The project also focuses on improving energy efficiency, especially in the building sector and public institutions, reducing costs, and enhancing competitiveness. Additionally, it seeks to reduce methane emissions and flaring in the gas industry, supporting Algeria’s international climate commitments while driving technological innovation and the growth of local expertise.
