Algeria, Germany explore ways to boost energy cooperation

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Hydrocarbons, Miloud Medjelled, received Monday in Algiers a high-level delegation from the Federal Republic of Germany, during which both sides explored ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and develop mutually beneficial partnerships in the energy and hydrocarbon sectors, the Ministry said in a statement.

Medjelled received, at the Ministry’s headquarters, the German delegation led by the Director General for Geo-economics at the German Federal Foreign Office, Oliver Rentschler, comprising executives from the German Foreign Office and the Ministry of Economy, alongside a number of officials and representatives of major German energy and industrial companies such as Bosch, Siemens, VNG, in the presence of the German Ambassador to Algeria and executives from the Ministry of Hydrocarbons.

This meeting served as an opportunity to examine the state and prospects of Algerian-German bilateral cooperation relations, described as strong and distinguished, particularly as part of the strategic partnership between the two countries in the energy sector.

The two sides expressed their satisfaction with the progress made in implementing a number of joint cooperation projects, especially in the fields of natural gas marketing, low-carbon technologies in the gas industry with the aim of reducing emissions, as well as the development of a green hydrogen transport project, through joint working groups comprising experts from both countries, the statement added.

They also discussed the progress of expert work as part of the “TaqatHy+” project, particularly with regard to reducing methane gas emissions and limiting flaring operations in the gas industry, to fulfilling international climate commitments and stimulates technological innovation as well as the development of local expertise and competencies.

Medjelled highlighted Algerian-German cooperation momentum, stressing the need to continue technical and scientific exchanges between experts and institutions of both countries, and working to implement new and tangible projects based on modern technologies and innovative technological solutions, particularly in the oil and gas industry, related to equipment manufacturing and its localization, alongside strengthening training and human capacity building.

Both parties reaffirmed the shared will to strengthen bilateral cooperation and develop mutually beneficial partnerships, based on knowledge and expertise transfer, mastery of production technologies, strengthening national integration, as well as developing sustainable solutions for reducing methane emissions and supporting energy transition, according to the statement.
