Algeria: Drug Networks Busted as 136 kg of Cannabis from Morocco Seized

ALGER, April 23, 2026 – Operational services of the Algerian Police dismantled, during this week, two organized networks operating in western parts of the country in drug trafficking, with the seizure of one quintal and 36 kg of processed cannabis originating from Morocco, as well as the arrest of four (4) individuals, according to a statement issued Thursday by the same services.

The first operation, “carried out by elements of the regional service for combating illicit drug trafficking in Béchar, resulted in foiling an attempt to transport a shipment of drugs originating from Morocco, estimated at 79 kg and 250 g of processed cannabis, as well as the arrest of three (03) individuals from the criminal network, in addition to the recovery of a sum of 365 million centimes derived from criminal proceeds.”

The second operation, “conducted by elements of the mobile brigade of the judicial police of Sidi Bel-Abbès, made it possible to seize 57 kg of processed cannabis, dismantle the criminal activity of this organized network and arrest one of its members, as well as to seize a tourism vehicle used in transporting these poisons.”

The suspects were presented before the Public prosecutors at the courts of Beni Ounif (Béchar) and Sidi Bel-Abbès, the same source added.
