6,000 Gaza War Amputees Urgently Need Long-Term Rehabilitation Amid Humanitarian Crisis

The Health Ministry in Gaza has warned of a mounting humanitarian disaster, revealing that 6,000 people who lost limbs during the Zionist brutal aggression urgently require long-term rehabilitation. Thousands of families now face severe and lasting consequences from the conflict.

Marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, officials described the situation as “shocking,” noting that 25% of all amputations involve children, many of whom will live with permanent disabilities from a young age. The ministry highlighted the profound physical, psychological, and social suffering endured by wounded civilians and their families, stressing the urgent need for sustained rehabilitation and specialized support.

International organizations were urged to prioritize amputees in Gaza and expand access to medical care and rehabilitation programs. Philippe Lazzarini, head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), noted that Gaza now has the highest number of child amputees per capita in the world since the start of the Zionist aggression. Since October 2023, the Zionist occupation has killed more than 70,000 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, and injured over 171,000 others, leaving the enclave devastated.
