Algeria and EU Advance Energy Partnership on Renewables and Green Hydrogen

The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energy, Mourad Adjal, held talks with the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Suica, who is leading a high-level delegationon on a working visit to Algeria, discussing strengthening cooperation and partnership, notably in the areas of renewables, green hydrogen and energy efficiency, the ministry said in a statement.

During the meeting, held at the ministry headquarters on Monday, in the presence of senior ministry officials, the two parties explored cooperation opportunities aimed at developing the Mediterranean region, particularly in the fields of energy and renewables, stressing “the need to intensify and bolster regional cooperation, especially at the Mediterranean level, and to develop partnership projects in renewable energies, green hydrogen, and energy efficiency.” Similarly, the two officials addressed cooperation projects currently under study with European partners, including the Algeria-Italy electricity interconnection project and the South2 Corridor green hydrogen production and export project.

These projects are expected to strengthen energy exchanges between the two shores of the Mediterranean and consolidate Algeria’s standing as a secure and reliable energy supplier in the region,” the statement added.

Adjal reaffirmed “the importance Algeria attaches to these projects, which constitute a fundamental basis for fruitful cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean.”
