WHO Stresses Need to Strengthen Gaza Strip’s Health Services

The World Health Organization (WHO) underscored on Tuesday the urgent need to strengthen health services in the Gaza Strip to reduce the healthcare system’s reliance on medical evacuations, following over two years of ongoing Zionist attacks on Gaza.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stressed in a statement the urgent need for rehabilitation and reconstruction in the Strip to reduce the health system’s reliance on medical evacuations, after more than two years of aggression against Gaza.

The WHO chief also stressed the need to accelerate the strengthening of health services in the Strip, including medical supplies, repair of damaged facilities, and expansion of vital services to build a resilient and sustainable health system within Gaza, calling for the immediate reopening of medical referral routes to the West Bank, including East Al-Quds, to speed up access to life-saving care.

WHO said that more than 18,500 patients need specialized medical care that is unavailable in the Gaza Strip.

On Monday, the organization supported the medical evacuation of 5 patients along with 7 companions from the Gaza Strip through the Rafah border crossing, according to Ghebreyesus.
