USS ROOSEVELT (DDG-80) Docks at the Port of Algiers

ALGIERS – The Algerian Ministry of Defense announced on Sunday that the American destroyer “USS ROOSEVELT (DDG-80)” has docked at the Port of Algiers for a stopover lasting until October 16, 2025.

During this stopover, at the headquarters of the Algerian Naval Base in the 1st Military Region, the mission commander and his accompanying delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Brigadier General, Commander of the Centre Maritime Façade in the 1st Military Region. The meeting focused on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and exchange expertise between the Algerian and American navies, the ministry said in a statement.

In this regard, cultural and sporting activities will be scheduled for the crew members of the American ship, along with reciprocal visits between senior officials of the Algerian Navy and the crew of the American destroyer, the statement said.

In the same context, a joint naval exercise of the “PASSEX” type will be conducted at sea, involving the Algerian Navy’s multi-mission frigate “Erradii” and the American destroyer USS ROOSEVELT (DDG-80). The exercise aims to enhance joint operations between the naval units of both countries and to exchange expertise in maneuvering, operational coordination, naval communications, and maritime safety operations, the source added.
