Upper House by-election goes smoothly

The election for the renewal of half of the members of the Council of the Nation (upper house of Parliament) went smoothly on Saturday, with good organizational conditions and the compliance with the health protocol for the prevention of the Covid-19 in the 58 provinces.

The voting started at 8:00 and ended at 17:00, with the possibility of extending it one hour if necessary.

The national voter turnout stood at 54.89% at 13:00 in 101 polling stations, the head of the National Independent Authority for Elections, Mohamed Charfi, said.

He noted that the election was monitored by 252 political party representatives of the 390 concerned, or 64.61%.

The electoral college stands at 27.151 voters elected, for a three-year term, 68 new members for the upper house of Parliament, among the 475 candidates running for the available seats, representing 22 political parties and independent lists.
