Turkish President to Discuss Revival of Grain Corridor with Russian Counterpart

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday said he will call his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Monday to discuss the revival of Black Sea grain corridor, Anadolu agency reported.

Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the G20 leaders’ summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, Erdogan said “our efforts regarding the grain corridor were, in fact, intended to open the path towards peace.”

“We were able to succeed in this up to a certain point and it did not continue after. Now, during the discussions we will have tomorrow, I will again ask Mr. Putin about this. I think it would be very beneficial if we can start this process,” he said.

Ankara first arranged Russia-Ukraine talks in 2022, and later brokered the Black Sea grain deal to facilitate the export of grain and fertilizers from Ukrainian ports amid the war. Russia suspended its participation in July 2023.

Last week, Erdogan hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Ankara, and on Sunday discussed the war in Ukraine with the leaders of France and Italy, according to his office.
