Russia Accuses UK-France ‘Coalition of the Willing’ of Plotting Foreign Intervention in Ukraine

LONDON — Russia’s ambassador to the UK, Andrey Kelin, warned that the UK and France’s push for a “coalition of the willing” is a thinly veiled attempt to lay the groundwork for foreign military intervention in Ukraine aimed at preserving the current regime in Kiev. In an interview with TASS, Kelin stated, “Our position is very clear. We perceive the ongoing negotiations initiated by London and Paris as, in essence, preparations for foreign intervention to preserve the ruling regime.”

Drawing a historical parallel to foreign involvement during Russia’s Civil War, Kelin stressed that such interference remains “absolutely unacceptable” for Moscow. He argued that genuine security guarantees are possible without foreign troop deployments and criticized the initiative as a reaction to ongoing Russian-American dialogue, reflecting Europe’s fear of being sidelined.

The ambassador dismissed the coalition as vague and poorly supported, noting that only six countries—three of them Baltic states—have shown willingness to contribute troops. Kelin described the Western push as politically flawed, warning that there are no agreed principles for a ceasefire or guarantees, making any interventionist framework premature and dangerous.
