Putin Approves Russian Navy Development Strategy Through 2050

Russian President Vladimir Putin has officially signed off on a long-term development strategy for the Russian Navy, extending through the year 2050, Presidential Aide and Chairman of the Maritime Board Nikolay Patrushev confirmed in an interview with aif.ru.

Patrushev stated that the final draft of the strategy was submitted to the president and approved on May 30. He noted that the decision to formulate the strategic document was made during a Kremlin meeting in July 2024. “On the president’s instructions, the Defense Ministry prepared the initial draft, which was later revised by the Maritime Board in collaboration with various federal agencies and organizations,” he said.

While specific details of the strategy have not been publicly released, its endorsement signals a continued emphasis on strengthening Russia’s maritime capabilities amid heightened global naval competition and ongoing military modernization efforts.
