Jordan: The New Government Takes Oath

On Wednesday, Jordan’s new Prime Minister, Jaafar Hassan, and his cabinet members took their oaths of office before King Abdullah II.

The new cabinet comprises 32 ministers, including the Prime Minister, who also oversees the Defense portfolio. Among the members are 14 ministers retained from the previous administration led by Bisher Al-Khasawneh, notably Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi and Interior Minister Mazin Al Farrayeh.

Hassan has streamlined his team by appointing only one deputy, Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi, reducing the number from three in the former government.

This new government’s formation follows Hassan’s appointment on Sunday, succeeding Bisher Al-Khasawneh, who resigned after the legislative elections held on September 10.
