India Urges Citizens to Leave Iran Amid Fears of Possible US Strike

India’s foreign ministry on Monday urged its nationals in Iran to leave the country as tensions rise over the possibility of a United States military strike on Tehran. The advisory, issued by the Embassy of India in Tehran, said Indians should depart “by available means of transport, including commercial flights” in view of the evolving situation.
The ministry estimates that about 10,000 Indian citizens—students, pilgrims, businesspeople, and tourists—are normally present in Iran, and advised them to keep travel documents readily available and stay in contact with the embassy. It also reiterated previous guidance to avoid protests and demonstrations and to monitor local media for developments.
The advisory comes amid heightened regional tension following reports that President Donald Trump is considering a limited strike on Iran, a threat Tehran has condemned as an “act of aggression” that would prompt retaliation. Negotiations between Iranian and US officials on nuclear issues have continued in Geneva, with another round of talks scheduled for Thursday.
