French media express optimism following President Tebboune’s remarks

The periodic meeting between Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and representatives of the national media made headlines in the French press, which expressed optimism regarding the President’s statements.
The French media outlets, including La Nouvelle République, TF1, BFMTV, France 24, La Dépêche, and L’Actualité, prominently featured the headline: “Algerian President says Macron remains ‘only point of reference.” These reports emphasised the friendly tone of the president’s remarks, offering hope for resolving tensions between the two countries.
CNEWS, for its part, addressed the ongoing dispute between the two states, quoting President Tebboune’s assurance that it “is in good hands” for resolution.
“As far as I’m concerned, this dispute, created out of nothing, is in good hands—those of a skilled person who has my full confidence, namely the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf,” the Algerian President said.
Sophie Primas, the French government spokesperson, appeared this Sunday on Le Grand Rendez-vous (Europe 1, Cnews, Les Echos), where she expressed optimism about the recent statements made by President Tebboune regarding his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, as well as hope to restore “normal” relations with Algeria.
“It’s a good signal,” she said, adding, “We are determined to restore normal relations with Algeria.”
On Saturday, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said during his meeting with national media that the dispute between Algeria and France had been “created out of nothing”, describing the current situation as a “brouhaha” and “political chaos”.
“President Macron is our sole reference point. We work together. There was a moment of misunderstanding, but he remains the President of the French Republic. All issues must be resolved either with him or with the person he delegates, namely his Foreign Affairs Minister, and rightly so,” he said.
In the meantime, international media outlets mirrored the French press’s focus, giving considerable attention to Algerian President Tebboune’s comments regarding his French counterpart.
