Eight Pakistani Soldiers Killed in Suicide, Gun Attack

A suicide bombing followed by an armed assault killed eight Pakistani soldiers and wounded 13 others Friday at a military site in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, local security sources say.

At about 8:40 a.m. local time, a suicide attacker detonated explosives near the headquarters of an army battalion in North Waziristan district. After the blast, armed militants entered the compound, triggering a fierce gunfight with security forces.

Some of the wounded were taken to a nearby hospital. Those in critical condition were airlifted to a military hospital in Peshawar, the provincial capital.
