Danish Authorities Suspect Hybrid Attack After Nationwide Drone Incursions

Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said on Wednesday that the wave of drone activity disrupting airspace across Denmark appears to be the work of a “professional actor,” describing it as a potential “hybrid attack.” He clarified, however, that the drones were launched “locally” and that there is no current evidence pointing to Russian involvement.

The drone sightings led to the temporary closure of Aalborg airport in northern Denmark, while three smaller airports in the south — Esbjerg, Sønderborg, and Skrydstrup — also reported drone activity, though they were not closed. The incidents follow the disruption earlier this week at Copenhagen airport, which was forced to shut down briefly after a drone incursion.

Following the Copenhagen case, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen had said Russian involvement could not be ruled out, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky later claimed Moscow was responsible, though without providing supporting evidence. The Danish government is continuing to investigate the source and intent behind the incursions.
