CHAN-2024: Algeria Held to a Draw by Guinea (1-1)

The Algerian National A’ football team was held to a 1-1 draw by their Guinean counterparts (halftime: 0-0) on Friday at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala. This match marked the fourth matchday of Group C in the African Nations Championship CHAN-2024, which has been rescheduled to 2025 and is being held in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from August 2 to 30.
Against the run of play, Guinea took the lead with a goal from Ismaël Camara of Horoya AC in the 62nd minute, capitalizing on a defensive error made by the Algerian side.
Under the guidance of coach Madjid Bougherra, the Algerian players dominated possession throughout the match but found it difficult to penetrate the Guinean defense until the late-game substitution of MC Alger forward Sofiane Bayazid, who managed to equalize in the 88th minute.
With this draw, Algeria remains in second place with 5 points, just behind Uganda, who has 6 points. Although Guinea has been eliminated following this match, Algeria will face last-placed Niger on Monday at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi at 18:00.
In another Group C match, Niger (0 points) will take on South Africa (4 points) at 18:00, while Uganda has a bye.
The top two teams from each of the four groups will qualify for the quarter-finals, which are scheduled for August 22 and 23.
