Attaf: The occupation openly declares the “Greater Israel project,” and the Palestinian cause faces the risk of being erased from existence

Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, emphasized on Monday that the history of the Palestinian cause is preserved in more than 1,000 resolutions that established its principles and affirmed its legitimacy, including more than 900 resolutions adopted by the General Assembly and nearly 100 resolutions adopted by the Security Council.

In the speech he delivered during the general debate of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Attaf said that the Palestinian cause faces the greatest danger in its history—namely, the risk of being erased from existence, through the annexation of land, the displacement of its people, the tightening of restrictions on legitimate institutions that represent it, as well as the elimination of the agreed-upon two-state solution.

“The danger is no longer confined to the borders of Palestine, as the Israeli occupation openly declares its intention to revive and implement what it calls the Greater Israel project,” Attaf said.

The Algerian Minister stressed that “the current situation places greater responsibilities on the entire international community—responsibilities that cannot be evaded, shirked, or neglected, but must be acted upon—so that the conclusion of the eighth decade of our organization’s existence marks the end of the suffering, tragedies, and catastrophes imposed on the Palestinian people.”

“It is a responsibility to work towards sparing the neighboring countries of Palestine—especially Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, and Jordan—from the horrors threatened by the expansionist Israeli project, with its threats and dangers,” he added.

Moreover, he highlighted the responsibility “to strive to preserve the foundations and pillars of the two-state solution and to expedite the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, as a just, lasting, and final solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”
