Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, expressed on Monday Algeria’s “full commitment and keen dedication” to the security and stability of its neighborhood, and to building the best, strongest, and most beneficial relations with all its neighbors.
In his address during the General Debate of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Attaf noted that for the second year in a row, one of the coup leaders in Mali dares to attack Algeria “from this very platform.”
“The extremes of baseness, vulgarity, and crudeness reached by this fake poet, and true coup plotter, are nothing but the ramblings of a thug. His gutter chatter deserves only contempt and inspires nothing but disgust,” the Algerian Minister said in both Arabic and French.
Attaf added that, instead of excelling at the art of blaming others for failure and diverting attention from all their own shortcomings, “we had hoped—and wished to believe—that this rude soldier and his likes would excel in nobler and more honorable arts that would truly benefit Mali,” such as the art of striving to restore security and stability in their country, the art of working to improve the living standards of their people, and the art of enabling Mali to have governance befitting its rich history — governance marked by efficiency, elevated integrity, and distinguished by honesty and loyalty.
The Algerian Minister noted that “the Republic of Mali deserves better and nobler leaders than these conspiratorial coup plotters.” He emphasized that Algeria “fully understands that this brotherly country cannot be reduced to a clique that sees no future for their nation beyond the narrow lens of clinging to power and oppressing its people.”
Attaf underscored that “Algeria’s hand remains extended, its efforts continue steadfast, and its reservoir of patience will never run dry in raising up the bonds that unite it with its Malian brothers—bonds that remain unshaken by such temporary factors, no matter how harmful or lowly those responsible may be.”
