Algeria’s Agriculture Minister Takes Part in World Food Forum in Rome

The Algerian Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid, is taking part on Wednesday in the World Food Forum 2025 (WFF) and in the Ministerial Dialogue on South-South and Triangular Cooperation, held at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Italy, the ministry said in a statement.
During his address at the plenary session, Minister Oualid reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to strengthening national food security through the development of sustainable agricultural production, the improvement of agricultural value chains, and investment in Saharan agriculture.
He also highlighted Algeria’s openness to foreign investment through strategic mega-projects, such as the “Baladna” project and the “Bonifiche Ferraresi Algérie” (BF) project with the Italian partner. He stressed that “Algeria’s doors remain open to all investors wishing to tap into the vast potential offered by the agricultural sector, particularly in the country’s southern regions.”
The minister further noted that the agricultural sector “is now more than ever turning to technology to improve productivity and optimize the use of natural resources—especially water and energy—in line with the government’s strategic orientations for rural development and investment promotion in agriculture.”
He also underscored the importance of strengthening international partnerships and sharing experiences in scientific research and advanced technologies to modernize the agricultural sector, emphasizing that “achieving food security requires the concerted efforts of countries, institutions, and organizations active in this field.”
According to the statement, Minister Oualid’s participation in this international event reflects Algeria’s determination to contribute actively to global efforts aimed at ensuring food security, addressing environmental challenges, and consolidating its position as a key partner in sustainable agricultural development.
The World Food Forum is a major annual platform for exchanging expertise and discussing current challenges facing global food systems—particularly in light of climate change, increasing demand for natural resources, and the urgent need to ensure sustainable food security.
