Algerian FM Meets with UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative, Head of UNSMIL

ALGIERS – On Thursday, at the ministry’s headquarters, Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, welcomed Hanna Serwaa Tetteh, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), during her official visit to Algeria, as stated in a ministry communiqué.
During this meeting, the Minister of State extended his congratulations to Serwaa Tetteh on her appointment to lead the UN mission in Libya, affirming Algeria’s readiness to offer all forms of support and assistance in fulfilling her important mandate.
The two parties engaged in discussions, exchanging views and analyses regarding the developments in the Libyan situation and exploring potential pathways for resolving the crisis in this neighboring country.
In this context, Attaf reiterated Algeria’s stance and its foundational principles, emphasizing that a resolution to the Libyan crisis “can only be achieved through an inclusive and unifying Libyan process, free from exclusions.” He underscored the ultimate goal of “strengthening national unity in Libya and preserving the territorial integrity of this fraternal nation.”
The Minister further highlighted that addressing the Libyan crisis must prioritize the unification of all Libyan national institutions and work towards eliminating division and fragmentation within the country.
Moreover, he asserted that the key to resolving the Libyan crisis “lies in ending all forms of foreign interference and allowing Libyans to determine their own destiny,” as well as facilitating “the organization of free and transparent elections that can confer legitimacy upon the sovereign institutions of Libya, enabling them to make independent decisions.”
