ALGIERS – Algerian Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, presented on Monday an overview of Algeria’s diplomatic activities in 2024, which were guided by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s directives to establish Algeria as a positive proposing force in bridging divides and resolving conflicts.
During a press conference held in Algiers, FM Attaf stated that, based on President Tebboune’s directions in his speech before the Parliament on Sunday, “Algeria has worked to be a positive proposing force, contributing to the unification of the elected Group of Ten and the African bloc within the UN Security Council.”
FM Attaf emphasized that Algeria firmly believes that humanity’s future is linked to the future of the United Nations and the restoration of its credibility, enabling it to fully carry out its responsibilities.
The Minister explained that 2024 was focused on strengthening Algeria’s diplomatic presence and enhancing its role regionally and internationally, despite the year being marked by the growth and escalation of conflicts, disputes, and wars in an unprecedented global environment since the Cold War.
“It was necessary for Algeria to adapt to the significant regional and international changes and continue its efforts to protect its interests while strengthening its role in the Arab, African, Islamic, and Mediterranean spheres, and beyond,” he added.
FM Attaf also highlighted Algeria’s active role in addressing energy security issues, through hosting the Gas Forum earlier in the year and the President’s participation in the G7 summit.
