Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, held talks with South Africa’s Minister of Electricity and Energy, Kgosientso Ramokgopa, and Tunisia’s Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, Fatma Thabet Chiboub, the Algerian Ministry of Energy and Mines said in a statement.

Minister Arkab met with Minister Ramokgopa on the sidelines of workshops and ministerial sessions ahead of the African Heads of State Energy Summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. They reviewed the status of cooperation between the two countries in energy, mining, and renewable energy sectors.

The two sides explored opportunities to enhance collaboration in research, exploration, and the processing of mineral resources, as well as investment prospects and knowledge exchange in the hydrocarbons, oil, and gas sectors.

Minister Ramokgopa expressed South Africa’s interest in further developing cooperation with Algeria, especially in liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). He also highlighted the strong relations between the two countries and expressed hope to elevate their economic and trade ties to match their political relations.

Additionally, Minister Arkab met with Minister Fatma Thabet Chiboub of Tunisia, where the discussions focused on the “deep and historical” bilateral cooperation in energy, mining, and renewable energy. The ministers explored ways to strengthen this cooperation, particularly in the areas of hydrocarbon production and marketing, electricity generation and transmission, as well as renewable energy and the energy transition.

The two sides also reviewed the progress of joint projects, notably the enhancement of electricity interconnection between Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya, and discussed opportunities for collaboration in the mining sector, particularly the exploitation and processing of phosphate resources, alongside knowledge exchange and training initiatives.
