Algerian Army Thwarts Attempts to Introduce Over 3 Quintals of Cannabis Via Borders with Morocco

Attempts to introduce more than three (03) quintals of cannabis resin via the borders with Morocco were thwarted and 28 drug traffickers were arrested, in operations carried out by combined detachments of the Algerian People’s National Army (PNA), in coordination with the different security services, during the period from 1 to 7 January 2026, PNA said Thursday in an operational report.
“As part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and multifaceted organized crime, units and detachments of the People’s National Army carried out several operations with excellent results between 01 and 07 January 2026, reflecting the high level of professionalism, vigilance and constant readiness of our Armed Forces throughout the national territory,” said the source.
As part of the fight against terrorism, detachments of the People’s National Army “arrested seven (07) terrorist supporters in various operations across the country,” added the source.
In the fight against organized crime and “as part of the ongoing efforts to foil the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, combined Army detachments intercepted, in coordination with different security services, in operations carried out through various Military Regions, 28 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to introduce 3 quintals and 87 kg of cannabis resin from Morocco’s borders, while 4.4 kg of cocaine and 155943 psychotropic tablets were seized,” the report underlined.
In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar and Illizi, PNA’s detachments “arrested 188 individuals and seized 30 vehicles, 312 electric generators, 192 jackhammers, as well as quantities of mixed raw gold and stones, detonation tools and equipment used in illegal gold panning operations,” according to the report.
“Fourteen (14) other individuals were apprehended and one (01) hunting rifle, 29,527 liters of fuel, as well as 7 quintals of tobacco and 8 tons of foodstuffs destined to smuggling and speculation were seized in distinct operations,” added the source.
A total of 311 irregular migrants of different nationalities were arrested across the national territory, PNA’s report concluded.
