
Attempts to smuggle more than three quintals of processed kif through Algeria’s borders with Morocco were thwarted during operations carried out by combined detachments of the National People’s Army (ANP), in coordination with various security services, between August 20 and 26, according to an operational report released Wednesday by the ANP.
“In the context of sustained efforts in the fight against terrorism and organized crime in all its forms, units and detachments of the ANP conducted several operations between August 20 and 26, 2025. These resulted in significant outcomes that reflect the high professionalism, vigilance, and constant readiness of our Armed Forces across the national territory,” the statement said.
As part of counterterrorism operations, ANP detachments arrested three individuals providing support to terrorist groups in various regions. Meanwhile, in the fight against organized crime and efforts to combat drug trafficking, combined ANP detachments, in coordination with security services, intercepted 44 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to smuggle 303 kilograms of processed kif from Morocco, while also seizing 889,505 psychotropic tablets.
In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Salah, Illizi, and Djanet, ANP detachments arrested 404 individuals and seized 32 vehicles, 219 generators, 189 jackhammers, two metal detectors, as well as quantities of raw gold, stones, and equipment used in illegal gold panning operations.
Additionally, 13 other individuals were arrested, and authorities seized one automatic pistol, five hunting rifles, 25,040 liters of fuel, 10 quintals of tobacco, and 3.34 tonnes of foodstuffs intended for smuggling and speculation.
Meanwhile, Coast Guard units foiled illegal migration attempts along national coasts, rescuing 58 people aboard makeshift boats. Across the country, 590 irregular migrants of various nationalities were also arrested, the ANP report concluded.
