Algeria Secures AFCON Last 16 Spot with 1-0 Win Over Burkina Faso

The Algerian national football team defeated their Burkina Faso counterparts (1-0, half-time 1-0), in Sunday evening’s game on matchday two of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations group stage (Group E).
Captain Riyad Mahrez scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute.
A narrow but crucial victory that ensures Algeria’s qualification for the round of 16 after just two group stage matches.
After two rounds, Algeria sits clear at the top of Group E with six points, ahead of Sudan and Burkina Faso which are level on three points each in second place, while Equatorial Guinea is bottom with no points.
In the third and final group stage match on Wednesday, December 31, Algeria will take on Equatorial Guinea, while Sudan faces Burkina Faso. Both matches kick off simultaneously at 5:00 PM.
