Algeria Participates in ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Joins Treaty of Amity

KUALA LUMPUR – Algeria officially joined the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) during the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, on Wednesday. The Algerian delegation was led by Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad and African Affairs.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the opening ceremony was attended by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, whose country currently holds ASEAN’s rotating presidency for 2025.

On the sidelines of the event, Minister Attaf held a meeting with Prime Minister Ibrahim, conveying greetings from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and reaffirming Algeria’s desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Malaysia and broaden strategic partnerships within the ASEAN framework.

Prime Minister Ibrahim welcomed Algeria’s accession to the ASEAN Treaty of Amity and Cooperation and expressed Malaysia’s commitment to enhancing bilateral ties and supporting partnership efforts with Algeria across various sectors.

Algeria’s accession to the ASEAN Treaty marks a significant diplomatic milestone in expanding its presence in Asia’s geopolitical landscape and strengthening its position as a reliable partner both regionally and globally.
