Algeria has officially become a member of the African Green Hydrogen Alliance (AGHA) on Thursday during the Global African Hydrogen Summit held in Windhoek, Namibia, from September 9 to 11, 2025, as announced by the Algerian Ministry of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies.
This integration sends “a strong message of unity and continental ambition in favor of developing renewable energy and green hydrogen across the continent” and marks a “significant step” in Algeria’s energy transition strategy and the diversification of its national economy.
During the summit, Algeria’s ambassador to Namibia, Abdelkrim Diaf, presented an overview of the national hydrogen development strategy along with ongoing projects and initiatives in the field, underscoring Algeria’s commitment to advancing the renewable energy and green hydrogen sectors.
Launched in May 2022 and chaired by South Africa’s Minister of Electricity and Energy, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, AGHA aims to create a platform led by African governments that unites countries committed to accelerating large-scale renewable energy and green hydrogen projects.
