Algeria-Italy Parliamentary Friendship Group Meet in Rome to Boost Bilateral Cooperation

ROME – A delegation from the Algeria-Italy Parliamentary Friendship Group of the People’s National Assembly (APN) held a meeting in Rome with its counterpart from both chambers of the Italian Parliament to review the state of bilateral relations and explore ways to strengthen cooperation across various sectors, according to a statement released Wednesday by the Algerian Parliament.
During the meeting, the heads of the two friendship groups highlighted the strong relations between Algeria and Italy and discussed avenues to deepen collaboration, particularly in parliamentary affairs as well as in renewable energy, agriculture, industry, and artificial intelligence.
The discussions also covered Italy’s “Mattei Plan” for the development of Africa—an initiative launched by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni aimed at establishing a strategic partnership between Italy and African nations based on mutual benefit and equality.
As part of this plan, both delegations referenced the first and largest project already underway: an ambitious agricultural initiative in Algeria’s Timimoun province. The project spans 36,000 hectares and focuses on the cultivation of legumes and cereals.
The Algerian parliamentary delegation is currently visiting Italy at the invitation of Italian MP Andrea Mascaretti, and is led by Kamel Laouissat, President of the Algeria-Italy Parliamentary Friendship Group.
