Algeria, Germany Discuss Energy and Labor Cooperation

ALGIERS, Oct 16, 2025 – Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines Mohamed Arkab received Thursday in Algiers a delegation from the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) to discuss ways to strengthen Algerian-German labor cooperation and promote mutual understanding on work-related issues, the ministry said in a statement.
The meeting, attended by Secretary of State for Mines Karima Bakir Tafer, UGTA Secretary General Amar Takdjout, and representatives from the German Embassy, focused on cooperation prospects in hydrocarbons, petrochemicals, carbon footprint reduction, low-emission technologies, training, and investment in the hydrocarbons and mining sectors.
Talks also covered the development, transport, and marketing of natural gas and green hydrogen, particularly through the strategic “SoutH2 Corridor” project.
Arkab reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Germany, especially in clean technologies and energy transition, aligning with Algeria’s vision for a low-carbon, sustainable economy.
The German delegation praised Algeria’s level of social dialogue and expressed interest in enhancing union cooperation between DGB and UGTA, as well as boosting partnerships in energy and renewable technologies.
