Algeria Expresses “Strong Indignation” Over French Senate’s Latest Drift

ALGIERS – The Council of the Nation (Algerian Upper House of Parliament), chaired by Azouz Nasri, Speaker of the Council, expressed on Tuesday, its “strong indignation” in the face of the new drift and deliberate provocation of certain members of the French Senate toward the Algerian nation.

The Upper House underscored in a press release that it follows “with strong indignation and deep disapproval the new drift and the deliberate and renewed provocation of certain members of the French Senate toward the Algerian nation,” noting that “these people belonging to the far-right are the true source of problems in Algerian-French relations.”

“These individuals pile up scandals and drifts, going so far as to regularly welcome terrorist elements of an organization designated as terrorist, displaying without scruple their treason, in contempt of the harmful consequences that this generates on current and future relations between the two countries,” noted the press release.

In this regard, “far-right supporters within official France and their followers, who style themselves as defenders of freedom and justice reproduce the practices of their predecessors, distinguishing between right and wrong,” emphasizing that these parties “deluded by illusions and cloistered in their senseless dreams, persist in harming Algeria and interfering in its internal affairs with the aim of attacking its national unity.”

While reaffirming that “independent Algeria has never yielded to attempts at interference in its internal affairs, nor tolerated attacks on its sovereignty, whatever the justifications,” the Council of the Nation insists on the fact that “Algeria, popular and official, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, consolidates its democratic practices through the promotion of participatory democracy and the building of a state of law, justice and laws.”

“Algeria stands as an indivisible whole, united and strong, where each component bolsters the others—any challenge to one part becomes a challenge to all, prompting a unified response. It will not tolerate any form of interference, be it blatant or cleverly concealed beneath the banner of human rights, justice or freedoms,” the same source said.

The statement added, “Algeria warns against any developments that could further damage bilateral relations and holds accountable those who, in their aberration, know neither rest nor respite, for any degradation or serious consequences that strike at the very core of Algeria-France relations.”
