Algeria, China Advance Joint Port Dredging Venture, Annaba Phosphate Port Expansion

Algerian Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure Abdelkader Djellaoui chaired a working session on Sunday at the ministry’s headquarters to review port infrastructure development projects, notably the establishment of a joint Algerian-Chinese company for national port dredging, as well as the expansion of the phosphate port in Annaba, as per a ministry release.
The meeting brought together senior ministry officials, the heads of the National Agency for Port Infrastructure Development (ANRIP), Mediterranean Maritime Works (MEDITRAM), and the Maritime Studies Laboratory (LEM), along with representatives from China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), the statement added.
During the session, officials reviewed progress on establishing joint Algerian-Chinese company for port dredging operations, including the project work plan, implementation timeline, and various execution phases, following directives issued by the President of the Republic during the April 19 Council of Ministers meeting, the statement said.
The session also covered progress on expanding Annaba’s phosphate port, which includes building a mining wharf as part of the integrated phosphate project, with updates provided since the minister’s April 9 site visit.
