Algeria and the European Union Agree to Intensify Efforts to Balance Economic Partnership

ALGIERS – Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, received a phone call on Saturday from the Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The discussions between the two sides centered on the state and future prospects of relations between Algeria and the European Union—both in the bilateral framework, particularly regarding the Partnership Agreement binding the two parties, and within the broader multilateral context involving the countries of the southern Mediterranean shore, the statement said.
In this regard, Minister Ahmed Attaf emphasized the need to activate the key mechanism governing the Algerian-European partnership—namely, the Partnership Council—which remains the most effective framework for addressing all issues of mutual interest, whether political or economic, the source added.
Regarding multilateral cooperation, the two parties exchanged views on the “Charter for the Mediterranean” initiative, which is currently under consultation between the European Union and the countries of the southern Mediterranean.
According to the statement, the two parties agreed to continue and intensify efforts to achieve a balanced economic partnership between Algeria and the European Union—one that safeguards the interests of both sides and contributes to advancing peace, security, and sustainable development across the Euro-Mediterranean region.
