Algeria and Italy discuss strengthening energy investments

ALGIERS – Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, received on Monday a delegation from the Italian company Eni, led by the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Natural Resources sector, Guido Brusco, the Algerian ministry said in a statement.
The meeting, which also included the CEO of Sonatrach, Rachid Hachichi, along with senior ministry officials, served as a platform to review the longstanding and distinguished strategic partnership between Sonatrach and Eni, the source said, adding that discussions focused on current and upcoming joint projects across several sectors, particularly in hydrocarbons, renewable energy, and electricity interconnection.
Both parties explored ways to strengthen joint investments through the development of exploration, research, and hydrocarbon exploitation projects, as well as the marketing of natural gas. Attention was also given to collaboration on hydrogen and renewable energy projects, which align with Algeria’s broader goals for a sustainable energy transition, the statement read.
In this regard, Minister Arkab reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to creating a favourable investment climate and reinforcing existing partnerships to serve mutual interests, highlighting recent government reforms aimed at improving the energy sector’s attractiveness and enhancing its competitiveness both regionally and internationally, the source said.
For his part, Brusco expressed Eni’s full satisfaction with the partnership with Sonatrach, emphasising the company’s desire to further develop and strengthen this cooperation by exploring new investment opportunities in Algeria and supporting strategic projects between the two countries, the statement added.
According to the ministry, this meeting occurred alongside Eni’s participation in the Algerian-Italian Business Forum in Algiers, an event designed to strengthen economic and trade relations between the two countries and explore new avenues for investment and collaboration.
