Algeria and Egypt Hold Talks on Palestinian Issue and Libyan File

ALGIERS – Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, received a phone call on Saturday from his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdel Aty, who offered his condolences, on behalf of the Republic of Egypt, following the tragic accident involving the fall of a transport bus in Oued El Harrach, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

The call also provided an opportunity for the two ministers to continue consultations and coordination on issues of mutual concern, foremost among them the Palestinian cause. In this context, they discussed recent developments related to the revival of the Israeli occupation’s expansionist agenda. Both ministers affirmed that the future of peace in the Middle East depends on ending the genocidal war against the Palestinian people, putting an end to Israel’s expansionist illusions, and expediting the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, the statement said.

On another note, the two ministers discussed the latest developments in Libya and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting a final resolution to the Libyan crisis—one that safeguards the country’s sovereignty, preserves the unity of its people and the integrity of its territory, and promotes peace, security, and stability in the region, the source added.

In the same context, the two sides discussed preparations for the upcoming meeting of the trilateral mechanism of neighbouring countries on the Libyan crisis, which is scheduled to take place in Algeria in the upcoming period, the statement concluded.
