Algeria and Congo explore stronger mining cooperation and investment

ALGIERS – The Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, received on Monday the Minister of State and Minister of Mining and Geology of the Republic of Congo, Pierre Oba, who is on a working visit to Algeria leading a high-level delegation from the Congolese Ministry of Mining and Geology, along with the CEO of the Congolese mining company Sapro Mayoko Sa, and the Director General of the Congolese Geological and Mining Research Center.
The talks focused on exploring opportunities for cooperation, investment, and partnerships in the mining sector, including research, processing, exploitation, and transformation of mineral resources, as well as developing a roadmap to foster promising projects that promote knowledge exchange, training, and the development of human capital in this field.
Additionally, the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in geological surveying, mapping, and research in geology, minerals, and other earth resources.
The two sides, moreover, explored the preparation of geological and geophysical maps, reports, and publications in collaboration with the Geological Service of Algeria, as well as technical and administrative oversight and mining governance, particularly in the formulation of mining regulations and environmental protection across all mining activities, in cooperation with the National Agency for Mining Activities.
Minister Oba took the opportunity to praise the strong, historic, and close relations between Algeria and the Republic of Congo, noting that this visit would help further strengthen and develop those ties, as has been achieved in the energy sector.
He expressed interest in exploring all business and investment opportunities with Algerian mining companies, along with knowledge exchange and training.
As part of his visit, the Congolese minister is set to hold several meetings and visits with officials from the Sonarim Mining Group and its subsidiaries, such as Sonarim Training, the National Agency for Mining Activities (ANAM), and the Geological Service of Algeria, as well as field visits to mining sites.
