Algeria’s Tafer Meets with a Delegation from Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank

Karima Tafer, Secretary of State to the Minister of Energy, in charge of Mines, met on Monday with a delegation from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), led by Konstantin Limitovskiy, head of the investment office, according to a statement from the Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies.

This meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters in the presence of its officials, was part of the financial institution’s participation in the annual meetings of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), which are taking place in Algeria from May 19 to 22.

During the discussion, Mme Tafer underscored the significance of collaboration with the AIIB, highlighting Algeria’s dynamic development, particularly in infrastructure, energy, hydrocarbons, renewable energies, mining, and seawater desalination—sectors that align with the bank’s interests.

The Secretary of State also provided a comprehensive overview of key ongoing projects in the energy and mining sectors, focusing on those related to hydrocarbon development, renewable energies, hydrogen production, and the utilization of water and mineral resources.

Limitovskiy reviewed the bank’s missions and activities, noting that Algeria was among the first countries to join the AIIB upon its establishment in 2015. He also expressed the bank’s commitment to supporting Algeria in various development initiatives, particularly those aimed at hydrogen production, energy infrastructure, emission reduction technologies, minimizing carbon footprints, and addressing climate change.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed to establish a joint working committee tasked with exploring avenues for cooperation and identifying priority projects within the framework of future partnerships between Algeria and the AIIB, as stated in the announcement.
