Combined detachments of the People’s National Army (PNA) from Tamanrasset military sector (6th Military Region) seized a significant quantity of 1,048,000 psychotropic pills and arrested two smugglers, the Algerian Ministry of National Defense said on Sunday in a press release.
“As part of efforts to combat smuggling barons and drug traffickers, and acting on optimal intelligence, combined detachments of the PNA from the Tamanrasset military sector, in the 6th Military Region, intercepted an all-terrain vehicle in an ambush yesterday, 9 May 2026,” the statement said.
“The operation led to the arrest of two smugglers and the seizure of a large quantity of 300 mg pregabalin psychotropic tablets, totaling over 1,048,000 pills, along with two Thuraya communication devices,” the source added.
“This qualitative operation reaffirms, once again, the readiness of the PNA units to counter any attempt to introduce and traffic these poisons into our country,” the statement concluded.
