Zakharova Calls NATO Talk of Preemptive Strikes Against Russia ‘Extremely Irresponsible’

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has condemned recent statements by NATO’s Military Committee chairman suggesting preemptive “defensive actions” against Russia, describing them as an “extremely irresponsible step.”

Speaking to Sputnik, Zakharova highlighted that it was not a mere analyst or expert, but the NATO Military Committee’s head who cynically framed potential offensive measures as defensive responses to alleged Russian “hybrid attacks.” She criticized the timing of these comments, noting that NATO continues to supply Ukraine with full-scale military support, including tanks and heavy weaponry, while simultaneously accusing Russia of aggression.

Zakharova’s remarks underscore Moscow’s ongoing concern over NATO’s rhetoric and military support for Ukraine, which it views as provocative and destabilizing to regional security.
